Caleb Severn

CV

Caleb Severn holds a Masters in Physics from Swansea University, where he studied for 4 years. After graduating he was hired to be part of Inspec at the IET. Since starting Caleb has been involved in the development of semantically enriched data, ontologies, and domain models.

During his time at the IET Caleb has been a self motivated and enthusiastic employee. Demonstrating skills in learning VBA, Python, and JAPE. Whether working in a team or individually Caleb displays a professional work ethic and always endevours to improve the product and system on which he is working.

Caleb has been involved in two major projects at the IET, Inspec2 and Inspec Analytics. Underingstanding the benefits of a linked data database and being able to query it using SPARQL has proven very useful in day to day runnings of Inspec2. And a deeper understanding of the domain models and ontologies that lie beneath have helped to provide solutions to problems, or isolate areas that are causing issues. Just recently Caleb and Tiago were involved in being trained in how to use JAPE to better enable them to write pipelines for Natural Language processing.

Although in its early stages Caleb has already been pro-active in Inspec Analytics. Volunteering to deduplicate authors and publishers used on the database, as well as looking into automated description writing for terms.

Whether working on  databases, or writing python code, Caleb shows considerable ability and enthusiasm to learn and to improve,  always willing to be part of a team or to work on his own.
