Travel and lodging

Amsterdam has many international rail connections including the high speed Thalys to Paris, ICE services to Germany and night trains to many EU cities. Eurolines, Megabus and iDBUS provide coach travel to UK and Europe. In terms of flying, Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) is a highly rated airport and major European transport hub. There are also 3 North Sea ferry services from UK to Holland.


Fly in by plane

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the primary international airport in the Netherlands, is located about 20 kilometres from Amsterdam. Ninety airlines fly to and from Schiphol and have offices at the airport or in Amsterdam. You can reach the city from Schiphol in just half an hour by train, taxi or hotel shuttle.

From train stations

Central Station

  • Tram 1, direction de Aker: Meer en Vaart stop. Keep Sloterplas to your right, you will then see De Meervaart on your left after a four-minute walk.
  • Tram 17, direction Osdorp: Ruimzicht stop. This stop is right on the doorstep of De Meervaart.
  • Night bus 353, direction de Aker: Ruimzicht stop.

Station Lelylaan

  • Bus 63, direction Osdorp de Aker: Meer en Vaart stop. It is only a three-minute walk from this stop to De Meervaart.
  • Trams 1 and 17 from Central Station travel via Station Lelylaan; see above to find out which stops to get off at.

Station Sloterdijk

  • Bus 61, direction Slotervaart: Ruimzicht stop, on the doorstep of De Meervaart.
  • Bus 69, direction Schiphol Zuid: Ruimzicht stop.
  • Bus 192 Connexxion, direction Schiphol, Ruimzicht stop.
  • Night bus 369, direction Schiphol: Ruimzicht stop.

Go by car

from Amersfoort, A1

  • Follow the signs for exit Ring Amsterdam Oost, Den Haag, A10 Oost.
  • Then for exit Ring Amsterdam West, Zaanstad, A10 Oost.
  • Take the exit S106 Osdorp. Turn left at the traffic lights, in the direction of Osdorp.
  • At the end of this road, turn right at the traffic lights.
  • After 100 metres, you will see De Meervaart on your left.
  • Drive past De Meervaart and turn left at the traffic lights, and immediately move into the left lane to enter car park ParkKing Osdorpplein.

from The Hague, A4

  • Follow the signs for exit Ring Amsterdam West, Zaanstad, A 10 West
  • Then follow the directions from point 3, From Amersfoort, A1.

from Utrecht, A2

  • Follow the signs for Ring Amsterdam Zuid, Den Haag, A10 Zuid.
  • Then follow the signs for exit Ring Amsterdam West, Zaanstad, A10 West.
  • Now follow the directions from point 3, From Amersfoort, A1.

from Zaandam

  • Drive through Coentunnel into Ring A10 West.
  • Take exit S106. At the traffic lights, turn right in the direction of Osdorp.
  • Then follow the directions from point 3, From Amersfoort, A1.
